Day 1 in Japan

The 3.30am start was a big rough but breakfast in the QANTAS Club eased the pain. Japan Airlines is the BEST airline I have travelled in so far. Way more leg room than I can remember from other airlines. After the most comfortable long haul flight that I have ever experienced we arrived at Narita around 4.30pm. Magnificent Japanese efficiency got us through immigration and customs and onto our hotel bus in a very short time. Despite it being New Year's Eve, we weren't up for much other than getting some dinner and going to bed early. So far, we are finding that people speak just enough English for us to make ourselves understood and there is just enough western food to get us fed. Of course, the suitcase full of gluten free bread that we brought with us helped. Between that and the diabetes supplies, we look like a travelling health food shop.

36 hours to go

Only 36 more hours before we set off on our Japanese odyssey. As this is our second overseas trip we are hoping we are smarter travellers but this time we are heading to a whole new continent. Ciaran, Ronan and Clare are all super excited to be visiting the home of Pokemon, Studio Ghibli and manga. Edel and Ian are a little nervous about managing the language, coeliac disease and our new companion, diabetes, in a non-English speaking country. It is going to be a big adventure!
